What about implementing a solution like the NPC (Kimmes?) at the Hall of Monuments. Instead of switching between character and account-based, this NPC would switch your guild hall between PVE and PVP-based.

Maybe GvG'ers like the convenience of automatic hero stripping from their parties, and this would allow them to keep that "feature."

You can still change hero skills etc in the Great Temple but it is highly inconvenient that we can't scrimmage with heroes anymore. We used to do this to test out little things but now we'd have to either find people or...well nothing else can be done :/

Also, so far for 'original skillbars'.

Some of the henchies look cool though!

Well firstly: I do like the crowdedness of having all the new NPCs standing around, and in particular that they are animated (and having just learned they have text I'll being doing a tour imminently!).

But the removal & barring of Heroes is a big deal, being in a long-standing loyal PvE guild with zero GvG matches under our belts - it's the only location that is one-key-one-click away and offers all PvE services (for which we played a hefty premium) without commutes or the connection strain of population density.

I'd like to think that some positives can still come out of this though, since this update has brought to a head the gradually diminishing PvE returns of Guild Halls:

> PvP versions of skills taking priority over PvE versions, making it necessary to map out to assemble certain styles of skillbar for player characters & Heroes.

> Real-money transaction make-overs being restricted to a PvP outpost locked behind level & travel requirements that vary by campaign (making it necessary to test combinations for new PvE characters on expendable PvP characters with limited armor and lighting options, then to play for X hours and break immersion to 'earn' the look that should have been PvE-purchasable at level 1).

> Xunlai quests & associated rewards similarly restricted, meaning PvE characters lose access to the bonus XP until they're level 20 anyway and detracting from the rejuvenating/social aspects of Xunlai quests (since they are consequently for the sole enjoyment of PvE characters that have already outgrown them rather than those actually progressing through said content).

So if PvE guild halls are indeed introduced this would remedy the PvP version irritation, and if the opportunity was seized to integrate the PvP outpost restricted content into them that would be a marked improvement.
I know that the new Henches would serve no purpose in a PvE guild hall, but if they stayed simply to add life & flavor that would be the icing on the cake - and adding all new PvE features would be the cherry on top!

E.g. Functional statues of the gods (/another means to summon avatars), an Asuran gate (shortcut to Boreal station - if unlocked), a vortex (shortcut to the Realm of Torment - if unlocked).

I'm going to express one final bit of annoyance at this update, and then I'm done.

Congratulations to all the players with the winning builds. I understand that most winning builds were sui generis and not pvx copies. Good job and good for you.

However, the addition of those NPC's, which for PVEers won't be used, turns our guild halls into trophy rooms for someone else. I have no issue celebrating victors and contest winners in public places like the Great Temple of Balthazar. Did it have to be my guild's home base? Really?

OK, I'm done.

Guess i will put my two cents in as well.

one cent. Boo!
two cent. Boo!

Maybe a-net can line up the henchmen in the GH. So when you look at the radar it can read PvP

check this for reference: without saying old stuff, even if Anet has been lazy (shame on them for that really), having a NPC named after them for copying a build from PvX Wiki, i dont think thats a true accomplishment. Heck if i were one of the winners i would pay for the changename thingie, but thats me (and i didnt submit any build because i havent done any serious PvP in the last 2 years).

[edit] of course 1 thousand grats to players who submitted new builds, they surely deserve the npc/minipet after their char.

regarding removing heroes from all pvp i think it was a good move but i would have kept HB (removing the Zaishen Miss. for sure, and maybe freezing the title). Codex format is much like TA without gimmicks/meta, and thats nice, but HB got removed and there is not another format like that atm, while it was funny for some of us (and i mean funny on non-RR day ofc)

Oh I'm well aware of them just copy pasting from Wiki. Nevertheless, they are a part of the game now forever. It's pretty damn awesome.

Fail-troll....
GH's arent there only for pvp-scrubs, but for anyone who has a guild.
Since our guild use GH to gatter before some pve, etc., we synergise our Herpes build there..and now thanks to pvp-scrubs that cant play pvp w/o a hero, they are removed from our halls tooo.
and bout the "PvP beeing read in radar"
I hope you weren't serious, else you have serious issues.

Getting a pretty damn unique reward for copying something. If only college worked like that...

Back on-topic - I'm also in a PvE Guild which gathers in the GH for setting up teams, including heroes. I also runed my heroes in the GH and switched weapons. Disallowing heroes in the GH makes it quite useless for PvE... I guess you could still test builds and skills at the Isle of the Nameless, but it won't be the same. I would also like to add that I hate all those useless Henchmen with silly names and retarded looks standing in my beautiful GH...

Horrible update *shakes head*

Default Where's The Test Crew Filter?

With the newest update of PvX Wiki Henchman & the slow implosion of a guild hall.

What happened to that "Live Test Krewl"?
If the testers are activated , not sure if Anet as picked their testing team yet.
Aren't they supposed to be helping the Developers point out things like this?

Yes Anet is trying to make PvP the way it was in 2006 and also trying to make it better. Not having heroes seems like such a small and petty thing to complain about but, I'm already missing the fun me and my guild had with customized Scrimmages. You know like "Codex Arena" (Sealed Deck) or "Dragon Arena" (Dodge Ball) things Anet took from the GW community and made it a public Team Arena.
Well least we can still scrimmage and practice GvG with the new henchmen...lol

I know the small team left to man GW1 has a lot on their plate, while about a hundred others work on GW2 but, please find the time to make a few fixes.

The question is: why we had this contest? they could skip it and just go to PvX...
They did, most of the build are PvX driven, it was a fear at the start of the contest, now reality.

And Yes, sign me up for the "Not-happy-about-no-heroes-in-guild-hall" club, It was extremely useful to help to make a Monk or a Mesmer build while on my Assassin to then share the template with a guildie while i was busy merching or rune-ing up heroes etc...

Good thing though, with this many people bothered / annoyed / >insert better word here<, ANet will do try to fix this...(and no i dont want to hear / see and SF talk, thats a whole 'nother ball of wax)

EDIT:

I'm too lazy to search for it, but didn't the official Henchmen Contest rules state something about copying builds?

the rules state that you are not allowed to use "copyrighted" builds. however, since no build is ever copyrighted, that rule is essentially useless. it is there to cover Anet's ass in case someone tried to sue them; it is not meant to ensure any kind of creativity.

I agree, put back the ability to form hero parties in the GH. This way (PvE player) I feel I have wasted my money maxing out my GH NPCs.

is it really so hard to assemble hero builds outside of the guild hall? this hardly seems worth complaining about.

Ok, setting up heroes in a town, anyone here can adapt too not, really that big of deal.
But, why can't we use heroes in our own private scrimmages anymore. How does that effect the Public PvP community. My guild had private scrimmages with heroes and had guild events involving private hero battles.
Now the fun we had in our guild hall is taken away from us.
It just seems like Anet is slowly deleting GW one game play mechanic at a time.

No, most of the builds are good, and good builds have a tendency to show up on PvX.

Why is this so hard to understand?

Quote:

Most...melodramatic...quote...ever.

Seriously, they know that this annoys some people; Regina has already said that they'll fix it if able. However, and this is key, the benefit to PvP-ers far outweighs the minor inconvenience this affords PvE-ers. It'd be great if they could fix it, but it just may not be possible. Every time some limitation like this crops up, the community treats it like ANet is out to get <insert segment of the population minorly inconvenienced by the latest update>, instead of just trying to balance the needs of multiple facets of the game.

Here my suggestion, instead of removing heroes from pvp, just lock all of their skills when in a pvp arena. Of course they can be taken into battle, but it be like taking smiter's boon on your bar, because just auto attacking won't do anything. This would effectively remove hero from pvp without the side effects of losing the ability of ping bars for other in the group stored on a hero bar (which has been done in groups I've been countless of time) and the whole guild hall fiasco people are talking about here.
